well having worn out another scroll saw (makita) Yesterday I rang MIK International and odered a Hegner...........Hope it lives up to its reputation. I guess Ill find out when I get it.

If my experience is anything to go by, you'll be very happy with the Hegener...great machine 10+ years old now and still runs smooth as a baby's bum.

I actually use a Dewalt DW788 which is a rebadged Excalibur, I preferred this to the hegner with ease of blade changing etc, etc.
Also smooth as a babies bum.............probably a bit biased though as I did do a fair bit of demo work for Dewalt on this a few years ago when it was first released, but it does everything I expect of it.
The only problem I have with it, and every other machine I have used, is that I could always use and extra couple of inches on the table, I wonder if that would also apply with the 30"?
The RBI is also a nice machine but I don't know if it is available in Oz as yet, or ever likely to be.

I tested the deWalt a few years ago & was also favourably impressed. I liked the 2 way tilt. It was smooth, and also had enough grunt to cut 25mm bluegum with no probs at all.

well I gave it a workout over the last couple days and so far I love it thin timber or ply easy 2 inch blocks for my 3d peices easy again and its smooth as AlexS rekons it is
I think we are gunna have a nice longterm relationship

Like Iain I invested in the DeWalt 788 after viewing and looking at what the Hegner had to offer.
I doubt that I'll ever earn the money back that I spent on the 788 but I did want a better saw than the ones offered outta Taiwan,hence my decision to go down that path and save some dollars, and 'Er Indoors wrath with the Visa.:D
It does all that I can ask of it and I am more than happy with its performance and has the grunt to cope.
There was a good plan posted for a stand for a scroll saw if you were interested and of solid construction...I have made one myself and believe me in Jarrah it does not move at all even when put to the test with a good hardwood going thru the saw.

its ok John I got the pl;an sometime ago and used it for the mak but it converts ok
at the moment Im using an idea I picked up at last years ww show in adelaide using the triton adjustable stand/clamp it allows me to sit and tilt the saw forward for hours of happy time with rest stops of course
I am especially impressed with the low noise unlike the other ones I have had ...dont have to turn up the music ................u can hear a collective neighbourhood sigh there alone LOL
