I'm currently on the hunt for the flagship machine of my new workshop - a large-ish bandsaw! I intend to use it for sawing my own planks from fresh logs, and for resawing (as well as for general use). I'm currently debating between two models

Timbecon 16" - $1349 - Has powerful motor (3hp) but only 250mm depth of cut. Has 2 dust chutes and comes with good fence and mitre (apparently)
Carbatec 17" - $1695 - 300mm depth of cut, but only 2hp motor. 2 dust chutes, fence and mitre. (MIK can get the same model by Ledacraft, which is good because I'm in adelaide)

Or... should I save the extra coin and get something with the extra quality? Does anyone have any experience with these or similar saws?

Cheers, Ed.

If you want a really good one and can spend a bit more, check out the Hammer.

Go for the Jet. Beautifully made and at a reasonable price. 3of my friends have Jets and have never had a scrap of trouble. I have 5 Jet products and they are perfect straight out of the box.
