I have a 2 x 2 x 18 billet of black palm that I haven't figured out what to do with. Im sure others will have more to say.

You can but the dust is bad, in my mind not worth the trouble.

I've turned a couple but I've found it's best to stabilise 'em first. I put mine in a jar of Danish Oil and leave 'em there for a day or three until they sink to the bottom. Then take 'em out and put 'em aside for a month or two so the DO can cure. When turning, if I come to a spot where the DO seems damp, I put it aside for another couple of days. In case you haven't guessed, I finish these blanks with DO/EEE too; no CA or Shellawax involved. :D

(To be honest, I cheat and use a vacuum pump which speeds the whole thing up considerably. But it's not "necessary" to the process.)

I often do the same thing with punky and badly spalted woods too. It's sorta like soaking the blank in CA when turning but a lot cheaper.
