Hi

I remember reading an article about the preparation of new (i.e. green) timber for future turning and use. I've been offered some trees from a friend's block and wondered about how to best cut/store the timber so as it doesn't warp etc.?

Open the search facility above (in the darker line above the forum) and type "seasoning" in the little pop-up window - there is a lot of info there, in the meantime here is one to help:

My quick suggestion: Keep it out of the sun, and off the ground. Cut the pith out of the logs. Cut the halves into length a few inches longer than the width. Anchorseal the ends soon as possible. Then cut all of them into blanks that you can use, and rough turn it as soon as you can. Really depends on the characteristics of the wood, but this is a quick explanation.
You might also search for "green wood", or even "drying wood", and read all the posts that come up in each thread.
Cheers,
