Sounds suitable for polishing mirrors. Have you used any of the coarser grits on wood, Gil? Dealers tab brings up Stanton Scientific in Byron Bay NSW and Wellington NZ.

Hey Joe. Nope, have not tried it yet (I think Austin has some??). Have seen many posts from turners that think it is a good product. Kinda pricey, and I generally stop at crocus cloth for sanding ,and use EEE or rotten stone as a polish compound.

I once got a quote from Stanton Scientific for the woodturners pack and let me put it this way, was glad I got a quote rather than just ordering some in.

You would have thought that it was made from gold or something with the price I got at the time

with pens Ern it makes it shine even before there is no finish on it. It great totally removes all sanding scratches out of it. I did use it yesterday on my letter stands (http://www.woodworkforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40275). I only used it on the horse one with the purple gidgee under it. I love it..mm I find is great stuff to put a nice finish on it

a bloke here in winton had a log in his back yard for about 10 years and He gave it my father in law and he gave me a piece the pleasure of a piece. I was on rations though he gave me a piece of 3" high and enough to cover my face plate. HE measured it on his face plate, and I was halved it with my saw. so now i have 2.

if any Aussie wants micro mesh they only have to go to a panel beating supplier they nearly all have soft sanding pads in all sorts of grades there are three places here in Cairns that i know sell them , some will also carry the mesh type that looks like fly screen . the two brands I have are 3M & MIRKA

hope this helps

G'day Lubb........
Lived in both Richmond and Hughenden some years back. Didn't come across purple gidgee but did have a lump of pink gidgee which may be the same thing. The pink version was quite a scarse tree (I saw a few trees in the Hughenden area well south of the town getting down towards your way) and it stands out amongst the other acacias. It has very narrow leaves and thick foliage and is an attractive tree with the usual rough bark.
The wood is deep red and the colour bleeds into the sapwood making it pink. Like all it's relatives, it is a tough an nanny goat knees when dry.

You want micromesh???? - Try these guys, http://www.armsmodelit.com.au/ArmsFinishAcc.htm#mmpad
at Arms modelit, Clontarf Queensland. Al and Shelly are fantastic and they are very helpful. They mail order all over Australia, and with their most expensive kit being $31.50, it won't break the bank.
No, I don't own the company, I am just another satisfied customer!!:2tsup: :2tsup: :2tsup:

bsrlee, speakin' of polishin' plastic... there was a leaf that the kids used to use from a tree in VietNam, they'd polish up your watch crystal... takin' all the scratches out of it so's it looked new.
