See what the adjustable stop is made of, the earlier ones were made of light and dark timber timbers, there were a few of these that weren't perfectly square, mine are square though. If they are a blue alloy - no problem.

If it's only been used once, there should only be a few pins and dovetails cut into the backboard. If it's been used a few times, chances are there's been more pins/dovetails cut into the backboard.

For $500, chances are he got 2 or 3 templates. If there's only 1 template - offer him $200. Look at the Gifkins website for a guide to the prices.

Awesome, I'm glad you are going to join the Gifkins Club.

$250 for the jig I think is too much for the condition you say it is in.

I'd also question him paying $500 for a jig with only one template.

The Brisbane Working with Wood Show is coming up in less than 2 months, I'm looking forward to it and working it as well, I'm also going to go to the Sydney show in June. If you can hang out to the show, he'll have them a little cheaper.
Brisbane - http://www.workingwithwood.com/brisbane/features.htm
Sydney - http://www.workingwithwood.com/sydney/index.htm

He'll have them being demonstrated as well and all the accessories and other bits will also be available.

My advice - wait for the show but if you can't, you won't be disappointed with your purchase.

You won't be sorry with your purchase, it may seem a long time to June but it will go quickly...
