Is there a protocol for attaching a tool rest for turning on the outside of the the head.
Ie an outrigger that is tough and variable in height adjustment.

Do pelple use free standing tool rests or is it beter tohave it very stable and bolted to the table/lathe

G'day! To your question of tool rests for the outboard end for large diameter turning, I have a Teknatool 1000 lathe, it has an outrigger that attaches to the head of the lathe. I have turned up to 585 mm with pleasing results, mostly hardwood clock faces.

I have considered a free standing rest, but just haven't got there as the results seem OK!

Keep on makin' chips . . .
