Hi All

Some may or may not be interested, but theres an interesting read I came across while looking at Rob Legg's (Of RL 24, 28, 34) website. www.rlyachts.net (http://www.rlyachts.net)

Theres a link called 'The RL story' about 13 pages to read, but a good story and well worth a read I reckon.

Regards

Matt

The RL24 was the trailer boat to beat for many years before they all turned to wide bummed skiff type boats with big sails. A retrograde move in my book.

The modern boats are a lot more expensive now and require much more expertise to control and yes ... they are a little bit faster - but if you look here
Yardsticks and time correction factors (http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:QhPacsgJYaEJ:www.sa.yachting.org.au/site/yachting/sa/downloads/DATA%2520TABLES/O5-06%2520TY%2520CBH%2520Ratings.pdf+tcf+RL24&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=au&client=firefox-a)
you'll see that it is only a few percent between an RL and something hot like a Young Rocket.

The secret of the RL was a low drag hull with a modest sail area and an excellent rudder and keelshape - one of the first production boats to bother in this area.
