I want to do an extension at home, is it possible to take a digital image, import it into Sketchup and build off that with the proposed extension? I seem to recall someone talking about this somewhere and can't recall if it was in connection with Sketchup.

Yes, I believe it is possible to do and has been done many times. I have not done it yet and neither have I looked into it, but I assume you just import your picture into the drawing as a jpeg and go to it.

I highly doubt though that it would be to scale though.
