Big gripe. . .
I'm with bigpond - adsl - pay $59.95 a month
mostly what I browse is this forum - plus a few other woodies forums
pay the bills online once a fortnight
occasional search for this and that
enquired tonight (to bigpond - phone 13POND) about shifting to a cheaper plan
Seems I already used over 400 Mb - with 10 days left to go for the month
So it would cost me MORE to shift to a "cheaper" plan cos I'd be charged for the excess usage (over 400 Mb)
So I'm thinking. . .
It's all this free (excellent) advice from the forum + sense of community + chance to win UBEAUT monthly draw
versus
Save me $60 a month, spend more time in the shed.
$700 a year could be spent on beer/timber/bandsaw/wine/lathe/weekends away/attending WWshows/whasky. . .
I can't decide on my priorities. . .

So why are you with BigPond?

I am with Internode, pay $39.95/month and get 8Gig download limit, uploads aren't counted, unlike on BigPond.

Why do you voluntarily subsidise the Mexican management of Telstra?

Internode is not the only one to look at, there is TPG, AAPT, the list goes on.

Doesn't really matter who you use, as long as it isn't Telstra!

G'day,

$49 or so a month with TPG and 30GB of downloads, uploads don't count.

Spend the saved foldy stuff on stuff for the shed and beer, and the ocassional stuff for SWMBO, just so that she doesn't feel left out. :2tsup:

$39 a month ADSL, People.net.au

Never had any excess bills.

Telstra is for dummies. Changed mobile phone to Vodaphone and monthy bills went from $75 to <$30.

Dummy or not I'm with Telstra.

Not all of us have too many options. It's either Telstra and their monopoly on a crappy ISDN system.
Someone else with a crappier dial up system.
Or pay a bloody fortune for satellite.

I'm not sayin' I'm happy, just jealous that I can't even get reliable telecommunications. Don't get me started on mobiles. :((

No offence intended, Outback

I sometimes forget about the bush.

I have always found Telstra both rapacious and incompetent, to my great regret as I hold a bit of their stock. Looking at Mexican Mick, his history seems to personify those descriptors.

But at least Internode doesn't charge like a wounded bull when you go over your limit, just slows you down to dial up speed.

Telstra charges extornionate amounts once you go over your limit, and includes uploads as well as downloads in that limit.

Telstra forgets the bush too - except at accounts time.

Just for comparisons...

The bill here was 5,657 yen, just under $70.

Internet ASDL @ 1.5m/s, no limits either way.

Telephone, a few international calls.

It never drops out, and the service guys will be here tomorrow morning if we need it.

Costs a little more, but no complaints.
