Me comp is playin up!
While on the net(FF or IE on 1500/256 Bigpoo plan:(()pages are taking ages to load, if I run a speed tester I'm getting 1100~1400kbps downloading. Uploading is a different story... 13kbps!:?
If I click on any link even on this site all I get in the destination bar down the bottom of the screen is "waiting for www.woodworkforums.com.au" or "contacting www.woodworkforums.com.au" and it just sits there doing nothing for 1~2min then the page loads as normal?
Been doing it for a week now... be going nuts at this rate, any ideas?:?

You could try resetting the modem.

You could try resetting the modem/.

that's the suggestion I would make too. I have to reset mine occassionally and it fixes that problem.

You can also try shutting down whatever firewall you are running and see if it goes OK. Then turn it back on again.

Been having similar problems on and off.
Looks like something is making the network real busy.

Yes! I have rebooted the router as I was testing another router and it was the same.

Some sites are worse than others. News.com.au is particularly bad.

spyware viruses (particularly adware) slow down internet connections - apparently "significantly"...
try running a spyware prog
Microsoft have a free antispyware

I've been getting some slow connection on the forums but only now and again.

I check other sites and they bare fine so there is a random problem of being too busy at times, but not often.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas for you.

Did some tests.
I have 512/128 and get testing to:
Canberra 428/106 About normal.
Sydney 425/46 What?????
Melb 429/106 Ok
Adelaide 428/73 Eh.....
New York 430/ 47 Eh....

So there are some problems in the network some where.

Harry,

Is your router/modem new (ie less than 6 months old)? If so check the manufacturers website to see if there is a firmware upgrade. A lot of the current batch of routers of all makes have a DNS translation problem.

I bought a new DLink router/modem a couple of weeks ago and had your DNS problem. The firmware upgrade fixed it. Now runs like a beaut.
