After coming home sick from work, I decided to sit in bed and do some research and have decided as per your recommendations on my last thread (http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/showthread.php?t=47801), I will be going for a Triton Router.

But the next question is which one, I am unsure if I will require the grunt of the big boy I will be using it mainly for a bit of renovating work making boxes draws etc and will prob spend most of its time mounted.

I understand the 1400 has the lifter mechanism doesn't look like the Big boy does.

Going by this site http://www.northwoodtools.com.au/categories.asp?cID=4&c=13275 with only a difference of $60 should I just go the big boy.

I will also be looking at buying the Gifkins jig.

Oh and one last question do Triton normally give good discounts at the shows or would it be the same as I have seen on most of the online stores Carbatec Northwood etc?

If you were going to use it with a Leigh D4 Dovetail Jig, I'd say get the smaller one. However, a Gifkins uses a table-mounted router, so get the bigger one - there's really no substitute for power and the big'un will spin any bit you can find, including 75mm+ horizontal panel-raisers, with ease.

I understand the 1400 has the lifter mechanism doesn't look like the Big boy does.
As you can see here:

the smaller looks identical to the bigger one with two exceptions - the variable speed wheel is in a different plane and the fine adjuster mechanism has a "T" bar sticking out from the lower part of the casing for the winder to engage with (not visible in this picture, but you can see the rear view picture here (http://www.raygirling.com/triton14.htm) - fourth picture down - if you wish).

I've got the big one in the table and the small one for use with my Leigh D4 (and other hand-held tasks). HTH :)

Ray.

A difference of $60 is good, what are the prices at these stores? At Bunnings the TRA001 is $380 and the MOF001 is $288 - more than $60.

These are a great router to use with the Gifkins especially if you only have one router, as you need to change the bit it can be done above the table and the height adjustment is easy and precise.

If the last few years are anything to go by, there's a little saving but look more for the special deals you can get rather than the special prices. For example, when you spend $xxx, you can get this for $15 rather $70(for example).

The only difference between the lifter mechanisms is that the smaller one has a winder that can be used through the table.

Yeah sorry, I did it again. The TRA001 2400w router is good at that price but the smaller MOF001 1400w router is dearer than Bunnings - so take this advice.....

PRICE MATCH!!!!!!!
