Maple (slightly spalted), with a small knurled band. 190.5mm wide x 88.9mm hi, and 3.97mm walls (7 1/2" wide x 3 1/2" hi, and 5/32" walls). The foot is just a 50.8mm diameter (2”) concave spot in the bottom curve. Two coats of lacquer, and buffed. Your comments and ideas are very welcome.

Wow Gil! Another little ripper!! :2tsup:
That band at the top - genius!! It melds in perfectly, i.e. stands out just enough to be noticed, but doesn't take over the whole piece.
Yep, got my vote :)
Cheers

Touch of class there Gil. The knurled band gives the piece a look of understated elegance reminiscent of images from bygone ages, Bronze Age perhaps and the golden torcs of that period?

Thanks for all of your encouraging comments! :)
The band was knurled with a homemade tool from parts at hand. A hardened steel drill bit guide bushing (25mm long) with a knurled flange was the major part, and as you see it is mounted on a small bolt and allowed to spin against the turning wood. I need to modify it some as it gets a bit hot in work.

That is a lovely Bowl, Gil. I am already getting ready to make a similar texturing tool!:) Thanks for the idea:2tsup: . Iv'e got some old leather working tools that do a similar thing to leather, and a freind has made a small texturing hammer for turning, but that tool gives a nice uniform pattern! Brilliant.:2tsup:
