When building with besser blocks do windows & doors require steel lintels or can a "besser lintel block" be used ? If so how wide a window can these lintel blocks span ?

In a 2 story construction if the walls (internal & external) are to be load bearing can they be built using 90mm wide blocks or do they need to be 190mm wide blocks ?

Do they blocks need to be core filled with concrete or can they remain hollow ?

Thanks

Bond beams ( besser lintel block ) have to span past the window opening, the bond beam is then filled with concrete and steel rio to give it the strength.

The bond beam has to be supported while you do this, the support can be removed once set.

Thanks for the feedback with my qns here.

How great a span can I cover with this method ?

For example can I span a roller door bay or is it only for use as a lintel over small openings ?

Thanks

Im not sure of the spans allowable, if the opening is big Im sure you could always use 2 courses of bond beams.

Have a look in the BCA. Reinforced masonry is covered in there.
