View Full Version : Gaboon Ply Protection

I've recieved 4 sheets of good Gaboon ply (2440x1200x6, I think) and want to protect it till I have the time to use it. I propose making a small fishing-boat and want to paint the outer surface, and varnish the inner.
My long range forecast of rain has proved to be a month out - instead of last month it's raining now and although the ply is wrapped in plastic sheeting I guess it is absorbing moisture - how should I treat it?

I'd reckon in Mildura when the rain stops, the water absorbing will stop too!

If it's just humidity you are worried about, in those conditions it shouldn't be a problem IMHO. If it's getting wet, the water stain will be difficult to hide under a coat of varnish.

I have a few sheets of gaboon stacked together as well, properly racked so they won't warp, but not covered. The outer ones will fade due to the UV light, but that's all.

Absolutely the best thing would be to pre-coat them with epoxy now. They'll be snug as a bug in a rug if you do that.

Cheers,
