Made another mango bowl yesterday. This piece of mango was cut about 60mm about four years ago, coated with a wax emulsion and let dry. The black spots are the result of an attack by the ambrosia beetle. To prevent this I should have coated the blank all over, not just the edges. It is 305mm diameter and 55mm thick finished with three wiped on coats of sanding sealer, sanded lightly and sprayed with three coats of lacquer, cut back with 600# wet and dry, used wet with a tad of soap. Finally buffed with EEE.

Very nice work Jim - luvly finish.:2tsup: Buggerin' stuff that mango - I think I've only ever seen 1 piece that didn't have some form of discoloration to it from bugs, borers, mould or whatever.

(Shhh! - I think it was one of Cliffs! :; )

Lovely shape Jim, and I agree the finish is superb.
I'm already eyeing off my mango tree. It looks nervous!:D :D
Never bears any fruit any how.

This has nothing to do with wood turning but if you want your mango tree to bear fruit cut it down. I dont mean right down just trim it vigorously. I have told lots of people this and it works most times. :D  If it dies you have lost nothing and gained lots of wood for turning.:2tsup:

G'Day Jim

That's a very nice bowl, like the shape of the lip.
