BUNTA 28th May 2007, 03:41 PM was wondering what finish to put over the hard burnishing oil to stop water marks & the like on the coffee table thats a w.i.p ?
i have never used shelac or any other wax finish so any tips would be appreciated.:)
Harry72 29th May 2007, 01:01 AM Our sponsor's "Hard shellac" should do the trick. Available through most online woodworking shops.
rsser 29th May 2007, 09:45 AM I wouldn't put shellac over hard burnishing oil myself.
If you've got a good finish with it - ie. the pores were filled with the slurry from wet sanding - it should be enough on its own. If you want a higher lustre you can buff the surface and/or apply a light coat of wax and buff.
BUNTA 29th May 2007, 09:45 AM so it go's over the oil finish ok ?

rsser 29th May 2007, 11:54 AM Goodo. You should find the surface pretty durable as is. And if you get marks it's easy to repair them with another light wet sand.
Harry72 29th May 2007, 07:57 PM Yep your right Ern, I should read the question properly:doh:
