For the old rockers among us.

Mate of mine was lucky enough to go to Morrabbin Town Hall on Sat night and see Wanda Jackson.... 70 yrs old in October and still belting out the R 'n' R like she did back in '56 Leather lungs Jackson is alive and well and according to my mate still looks good and really knocked em dead.

Crowd of over 2000 not only had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Wanda but were also privy to the last gig of the Thunderbirds a Melbourne (mainly instrumental) band best known for the theme to Peter Gun and their massive hit Wild Weekend, they toured with Johnny O'keefe, Roy Orbison, Cliff Richard & The Shadows and others.

1957 to 2007 - 50 years of Rock 'n' Roll.

I remember back in the 60's I was at a dance when it was announced their Australian hit record Wild Weekend had hit the American charts. The place went wild. This was a pretty amazing feat for an Aussie band back then. Matter of fact it still is today.

Would have liked to have been their instead of working.

CLICK HERE (http://www.thethunderbirds.com.au/music.htm) to hear some of the Thunderbirds hits and HERE (http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/artist/card/0,,448193,00.html) for Wanda Jackson snippets.

For the old rockers among us. :oo:

And for the ballroom dancers amongst us. :D

What a shame to see that the grand old lady of ballroom dancing in the sixties to the eighties, the Moorabbin Town Hall, has been relegated to rock concerts.

In my days the Saturday night dance there was the pinnacle of class, with Rock n Roll relegated to the second floor amongst the riff raff.

Many a happy night I spent on the main floor dancing the night away, in fact on this coming Saturday night thirty years ago I had the good fortune to meet my wife there and we have been together ever since.

And still dancing the nights away.:D

I remember the 60/40 dances at Moorbbin Town Hall well. Us rockers were as you say relogated to the small hall whilst the ballroomers got the bigun.

My cousin and her ballroom partner were in the big hall with their airs n graces whilst her brothers and I were having a ball in the small one Rockin n Rollin to some of the best bands in Australia.

Went back in the 70 whilst on leave once and discovered a guy from my class in high school who used to play clarinet and sax was up front and leading his own big band playing swing and ballroom in the big hall. Can see his face as clear as if he was here now but cant for the love of me remember his name. Think it was Lindsay something????:? Oh well never mind he didn't play rock so not to worry. He did have a pertty good swing thing going though.:)
