I have been given a Record Disc Chisel. It has a metal disc which can be replaced.
It is approx 20 iches long ( the tool that is)

How is this used and what for.

Cheers Greg

At first I thought you meant a scraper with a replaceable tip, but 3 seconds of internet search later, I found this.

You know how companies who make turning tools are continually introducing new and supposedly better tools and instruments to part the wood turner and his money?
Robert Sorby lead this field at the moment. But Record used to be pretty good at it too.
I have one of these CH100 Disc Chisels which I was conned into buying some years ago. It is designed to cut with a slicing action similiar to that of a skew chisel, but can be used in many situations where a skew cannot. It is described as being particularly good on end grain and thus for finishing the inside of bowls etc. The disc cutter is secured at the end of the shaft by a screw, and is easily sharpened and replaced. To be honest I never got the hang of it and it has joined the other tools at the back of the cupboard which I bought in the first flush of my foray into the wonderful world of woodturning . I now use only three or four chisels on a regular basis and the CH100 not at all.
So, if anyone wants to buy this tool, which is in mint condition, complete with instructions for use, and at a very affordable price, please e-mail me. :D
