If I were a retailer to woodworkers, or a manufacturer of woodworking tools/supplies, I would assign someone on my staff to monitor this site.

I can't imagine these blokes ignoring comments that are frequently posted at this site regarding the inadequacies of service, or the design or function of a tool, etc.

And when a member writes something good about an experience they've had with a retailer or one of their employees, I'd make sure I rewarded the person involved, and found out ways to have the same kind of thing repeated.

However, I understand from speaking with at least two senior people, one an Australian manufacturer, the other a retailer that they tend to be oblivious of the existence of this resource.

GO FIGURE!

The same thought occurred to me today while I was driving to the Perth WW Show. I was musing on some of the negative feedback about specialist woodwork retailers (not to mention Bunnings) that I've read on this BB. It would surely make sense for the same retailers (including Bunnings!) to scan the BB periodically. As you say, it's free market research.

Having said that, a word about Carba-Tec. It is fairly clear from the comments about Carba-Tec in the other states that they are not highly regarded elsewhere. I have to say that my experience with them here in Perth runs in quite the opposite direction. I find them helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Maybe the fact that they have only recently become a Carba-Tec store - having previously traded as Woodstock and are essentially still the same business - makes a difference. My experience with Timbecon is pretty much the same - good people.

Carba-Tec in WA have recently emailed their customers, looking for feedback. I think I'll point them in the direction of this site. I might be doing them a favour!:)
