Few mates and I went over and collected my new (to me) lathe tonight. Damn that was heavy. I'm reasonably strong and with four fairly big and healthy guys it was a real struggle.

Anyway it has already got me in trouble - cause I was out in the shed making noise til 11pm.....my wife finally gave in and gave me the word....woops.

Anyway its a 12x36, belt drive with a 1HP motor. Taiwanese manufacture and was sold to the last owner by Repco - interesting guy as he was at one point an engineer on the Repco racing development group in the days of Repco's involvement in F1.

Came with the usual - face plate, 3 &4 jaw chucks, a new Skoda live centre, a new drill chuck and MT2 tail.
Unfortunately its a screw thread spindle not a cam lock. Everything works nicely and it runs smooth.

Here's a few pics of it and the mill in place.

Hey! it looks like mine, the only thing is my is a 10x24, and mine is a Forbes brand, if you need a manual for it I have one, sort of, I downloaded from the net, is not complete but it's fairly usefull, I'm at the stage of alignment at the moment, I've just finished puting it together,
Cheers, Richard

Hi Hux,

Congratulations on your purchases:wink:. However, if your going to use coolant on your lathe I would put a board up behind the chuck to stop the coolant getting on the nice shiney garage wall:D.

Btw Dano48 a nice lathe you have there.

Regards

Yep they look like brothers Richard. Did you download the Jet 12x36 manual?
If not I would appreciate the link or a copy emailled to me at [email protected]

Yours is a really clean looking machine. Have you restored it? I don't have the lever between the power and thread cutting change levers....what does that do?

MH...the shiny shed wall already has some splatters :-( I have some old perspex I will put up tomorrow however I will try and find a solid metal workbend at an auction and then weld up a new tray and chip tray like the more modern stuff.

Grahame the looking was worth it but in both cases luck was the dominant factor in finding what I thought was a good buy for me. I am particularly happy with the mill as it is more machine than I will ever need. The worst thing is the cost of all the tooling (eventually). Thanks for the Whitelaws tip too.

Yes Craig, I've strip it cleaned it and repainted it, the motor died last year at the place I work at, and they sent another one from our branch in Melbourne , so I made the boss an offer and got it for $300.00, it cost me $400.00 for the motor!! but it has very little wear although it was abused a lot it come up alright, that lever is just a spring loaded pull out latch for the gear cover!!and the switch in mine must have konked out at one time as well, now it has one on the side, here is the address, look for the Lantain brand lathe Manual, there are about four files to it, let me know how you go,cheers, Richard http://bbssystem.com/viewforum.php?f=12&sid=4c933ac1324ac347321e7a691785502d

This is what it looked like.
