OK so I'm not a pro photographer and the digital camera attachment to my mobile phone is probably a bit dinky to most but it's all Ive got!!!

I've tried to use a neutral background this time round so hopefully the response won't be quite so loud albeit I accept the criticism hence another try at this.

So here are a few items from my much maligned (by some) $350 Taiwanese lathe. The lamps and the platter are teak and the S&P are pine and brushbox respectively. The pine was a cruddy old piece of near useless firewood but I found the fungus provided some character.

:D

Jamie, if I might be so bold as to make another suggestion..... That photo looks great BTW, as does the work, but if you want to go one step further use a large piece of card or a fabric drape to make a seamless foreground/base/background. This way there's no horizon or other lines to draw your eyes away from the work. I realise this is pretty lame coming from me as I posted a couple of shots last night that are shocking but I did them mainly so Tasman could see what the timber looked like. Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa :o :o

Thanks Mick,

You have no idea how hard that was - couldn't find a dark piece of fabric big enough to fill the bill - apart from the black satin sheet on the double bed and that has been on there for a few days.:D

I take your comments as intended and I realise that I need to make a presentation to get the best effect - guess I just hadn't thought about it before.

As a matter of interest have you noticed how the platter casts an optical illusion? It is a platter with a bowl in the middle but first impression is more like a double beaded decorative plaque facing you!!!!

And the material was bottle green shot in daylight on the balcony!! Obviously my dinky camera is more a fun thing than a serious camera - Oh well.

Oh, you mean it's not a plaque?:) Really looks like one, no matter how I look at the platter. The shot actually looks really good, maybe not how it looked in reality but the end effect is very elegant with the dark background. If you can manage that with a phone camera you are doing well. BTW, did you buy chunks of teak that size? I know the stuff's horribly expensive!

Thanks again Mick,

There is a cabinet co on the coast here that specialises in exotic timbers for the luxury boat market and those that can afford it in their houses on a spec basis - they supply, cut, build - you name it they'll do it. When I wandered in the owner said have a look in the scrap bin.
Got 5 ea 38X280X280 teak board offcuts
1 ea 28X250X250 qld maple board offcut
1 ea 90X90X900 teak offcut
plus several other small pieces of pacific maple, fiddleback qld maple & assorted other small bits for $50.

I thought it was reasonable. And it's all beautifully seasoned so I don't have to wait around for it to dry out.

If you look at the rim it curves towards you and the inner ring actually has a lip that is toward you too. Bickies round the outside - cheese or dip in the middle. You know - brownie point material:D

Thanks again for your input - I keep having people walk out of here all touchy/feely with what I've made and given them but it's good to get feedback from others who have some appreciation. I suffer from the "I know what I don't like about it" syndrome:confused:
