Well, my P.O.S 19" ViewSonic Pro P90f CRT monitor is dying at a rapid rate.... thank God! I've been disappointed with it since I got it. :((

I'm looking for an interim 22"LCD monitor until I buy a Mac next year.
Anyone have a good recommendation for a monitor for graphics work (not games - PhotoShop graphics) around the $500 mark?

Have a look at these two reviews.

The Samsung looks pretty good. Should be around $500 here.

I just bought a 19" ViewSonic wide screen and I'm happy with this.

Thanks Grunt!

I'll check out the Samsung, I'll never own a ViewSonic again!
The 19" I currently have is supposed to be a Pro Graphics monitor & it's a POS. I had it checked by ViewSonic & they said "it's within specs" I told them if it's within specs they had better stick to making electric tooth brushes. :!

MAjor,

I recommend a CRT screen. whatever size... if u can live with the footprint and u get a reputable brand the world is your oyster. FAR better screen quality res etc... also if u choose to watch TV on your 'puter its the real thing...

What a CRT gives you is the ability to change monitor resolutions on the fly. Something that doesn't work that well with a LCD (it gets a bad case of the fuzzies if you use it outside it's native resolution)

On the other hand, a 22 inch CRT is one heavy and large monitor, and CRT monitors are becoming hard to buy.

Dell has some LCD options that aren't too bad:

Bigger is better, espesh for graphics/cad!
If your getting a Mac, spend some $$$$ and grab the 30" dell... apparently its the same as the mac 30"!(and its cheaper).

We do just fine with LCD's - and we're a multimedia and video editing house...why anyone would want a CRT is beyond me

If you want true to print colours you really need a CRT. Having said that, I don't want another CRT again.

Thanks for the info, all. I read all I could find on the LG & Samsung which culminated in me buying the Samsung 226BW late this arvo.
Got it up & running now & it's FANTASTIC!! Just gotta get hold of a Gretag Macbeth One-Eye spyder & calibrate it. :2tsup: :U :U :U

The course I attended in Terrigal was run by Ken Duncan's lab Created for Life & I was fortunate enough to get a tour & meet the PhotoShop operators. CFL was one of the first labs in AU to get one of the 52" wide Durst laser digital enlargers and all the high end print jobs are printed with it on FujiFlex paper.

This means that all images for this printer are digitised & what do they use as monitors? LCD!! there are 5, 30" Mac's in a row. :oo: :oo: I asked the lab manager, Paul, why they use LCD & not CRT & he said it's simple, they get FAR better & more consistent results & only have to calibrate once a week - fortnight where the CRT's needed calibration every day or more.

The thing I learnt is if you want good printed results you must have a calibrated monitor & you must use the colour profile of the output printer.

Ken's images run from 20GB to 60GB in size when digitised & the printed results are just stunning. We stood in front of a 5000mm wide print at arms length distance & it was razor sharp. I can comment on this, with some authority, as I used to run a colour lab for my commercial work many years ago.

You can see some of Ken's work HERE (http://www.kenduncan.com/gallery.php)

I've had an HP w2207 (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-22-Widescreen-Monitor-W2207/sem/rpsm/oid/176653/catOid/-12965/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do) for about 1 month now. Love it, glossy screen comes with speakers but they are a joke. Definitely a good addition to the Mac Book Pro. And of course it is on sale now, after i've already bought it. And no dead pixels.
