I just finished this American Cherry Bookcase. You may recognize it if you watch New Yankee Carpenter. Norm made two out of Mesquite. Too rich for my blood. I did stick with Ironwood (Cocobolo?) pegs and made the knobs (enlarged view) out of Ironwood as well.
I actually made two of these. I hope to sell one.

Hey PlaneCrazy,
Your stuff looks great. What timber are the rails on the coffee table made from?

Cheers
Pat

Pat,
The top is spaulted maple and mahogony. The legs are mahogony, and the panel stiles are mahogony. The rails and panels are tiger maple.

Crazy, nice stuff!

Obviously a strong Craftsman style influence in your work - perhaps a touch of Greene & Greene. Exposed joinery has a lot of appeal to me and I am incorporating this in my current project.

How do you go about choosing the design? Do you purchase plans, or do your own?
:)

At one time I was a CAD draftsman and used Autocad alot. I get my inspirations from PICs and plans, but typically I draw up my own plans. Not the case with the bookcase. I got the plan from New Yankee Workshop. The shaker table was also done on NYW but I made my own plan for that.
The Morris chair was a combination. I started using a plan from a book until I discovered the measurments were way off. I had to switch midstream and make my own plans.
