I remember somewhere of seeing a attachment you could use with a 100 mm grinder so you could cut angles in metal

or in my case cutting flyscreen metal at 45' , rather than using a saw

I thing it would be handy if you just wanted to take off a couple of mm to make them just fit

is such a attacment still available and where

Hi Ratchet

Would that flyscreen metal be aluminium. If so,it would mean that you would not be able to cut aluminum with the standard angle grinder friction wheel.

I am aware of aluminium grinding wheels for angle grinders but not of a specific aluminium cutting wheel.

However if you happen to have a circular saw with a carbide tipped saw blade it would be far better suited to this task.
It should not be difficult to cobble up a suitable jig out of plywood and stick timber.

You would be able to use a multicutter on the 100mm grinder, they are tc tipped, although dangerous as hell. Alternatively, you could spray the metal cutting disc with any spray lub such as wd40 and it will cut aluminium without clogging. I remember seeing a jig for a 230mm grinder that was commercially made but don't know now. It was many years ago.

I would be more inclined to buy a cheap small mitre saw and get a TCT aluminium blade for it. The more teeth the better for aluminium especially for flyscreen sections.

A GMC, Ryobi or even a Warrior would be safer and more accurate than what you are proposing.

Take it from some one that has made 1000's of fly screens.

If it's only a mm or two out of soft alu, spend $20 on a bastard file.

Last time I looked, Paul's Mid City Hardware in Castlereagh St Sydney had a few in a corner at the tools counter. Generic Chaiwanese stuff.

G'day.
I got one from Supacheap. It is dangerous and doesn't cut straight. I went for the GMC saw with TCT blade.
The thingie is now chucked on top of a cupboard in the shed and provides housing for redback spiders.
I figure redback spiders are less dangerous then the thingie.

I cut my Al doorsections with my standard 96 tooth TC tipped TS blade, Just make sure you rub some candle wax on the teeth and blade first and feed it S..L..O...W....L.....Y. - don't drive it like you would a piece of timber , use a controlled cutting action.

However, - I would now use my old 8" TS running a 1mm kerf 125mm diam metal cutting wheel. The wheel is not specifically for Al but it works extremely well - I have cut 19mm square solid bar with it although after a couple of cuts it started to gum up with Ally so you have to dress them every few cuts. I used a standard grinding wheel dresser or cut a bit of steel. For 25 mm SHS and flat plate I rarely need to dress the wheel.
