used car price lists

this is in relation to my previous post (buying used car)

I have my eye on a toyota celica 1989 in good condition for $3.999

however i would like to compare prices. ( also for other cars) I believe there is / was a manual which gave a car the year / model / condition and a standard price for that car. I believe this manual was only given to car dealers.
Is it now available to car buyers, if not is there web site I can go to to get the same info. I have done a web search to no avail so far, ( but I dont know the correct descriptive word to get me the right result)

It looks like what I was looking for, I guess the range for the ST Coupe is 2.300 to 4.700 ( no condition on page) the one I looked at is 3.900 good condition, I assume therefor 3.900 is worth bargaining down ???????????.

For cars that age the redbook is a really, really rough guide.

Redbook gets its prices from car dealer tradeins and auction houses and these really wholesale so the prices are not that reliable for cars of that age.

You are far better off doing a big search on trading post and drive.com.au for similar models to get an idea of the price.

ok here is some serious advice ....done it many times with success .....go to the bank ......get $3,ooo in used $20's ......go to the car of choice ....(3,999).....walk around .......um and ahh a bit, "find" things wrong with it ......mention that garages these days dont give reliable roadworthy certs ......you'll probably get it home and have to spend a fortune getting it up to scratch....blah blah ......reach into pocket and show him/her the reddies .....flap it around like a flag ......and say ....I'll give ya three grand in cold hard cash for it ......thats me limit ...emphatically slap your other hand with the cash as you say it ( it gets attention focused on the reddies)...dont smile .....be serious .....and if they say no .....walk away .....my bet says they make a counter offer before you walk two feet or you get the sale right there and then.....

at the end of the day $3999 is way to much for a celica .....

Big thing is to have the body checked by a panel beater for rust. Parts are relatively cheap and abundant for these. Good engines too.

4K is okay if its dead straight and in excellent condition. Move on if it isnt.
