Got some pen blanks off Wood Butcher and made a couple of pens from it.

I've also attached a photo of a few blanks. Does anyone know what it is?

Looks similar to Yellowbox burl.

This pen made from one of my blanks by Toni's daughter Zoe has similar colours

The BM I've seen normally has more figure, but not sure.

Looks similar to Yellowbox burl
If it is Australian timber, this would be my guess.

I assume you are comparing to blanks on Brads Burls (http://www.bradsburls.com.au/pen_knifes.htm) site, although there are so may Tasmanian eucalypts, not sure what timber this is. The scientific names on the site doesn't mention Tas Eucalypt.

My own guess would have been Amboyna Burl, but not sure if it is imported or local.

Thanks for the inputs.

Myrtle burl?

How hard was it?

Yep, nice pens.

looks a bit like myrtle but the scent and hardness (medium) would give that away. Also looks like coolibah. Nice looking pens anyways

I haven't worked with much Myrtle, apart from the tiger myrtle. It wasn't that hard, but definately a hardwood, and it didn't have any noticeable smell. Coolibah is an alternative, but the colours aren't like any I've seen, but I haven't seen much. The photo's are pretty much colour correct, it is a yellowish brown with pink tinges in places.

Hmm, well the M. burl I've turned is pink mostly with other tinges. Prob. not it.

Here is some pics of Yellowbox burl that I have finished quickly with 3 coats of thin CA, even thou this bit doesn't have any dark bark inclusions in it, the colour is similar

Not sure if it is the same, but yours certainly look nice DJ.

I pulled up my coolibah burl clocks I made while back and I think there is too much red/pink. Anyone know much about Amboyna, I was going off web site photographs. It seems to vary from the yellows to the pinks.

Yes, I have turned a little bit of Eucalyptus burl from Tassie, note the little patches of bark inclusions, I have found this to be common.
