I was tooling down the road in the van of deligts this morning and noticed these three friends thumbing a ride. I wasn't going where they wanted to go so I came back for them later.:D

Actualy the bloke down the road left them by his fence for me.

now I know they are some sort of pine.... but what sort.

As a side issue, I have never had the oportunity or need to use a chain saw on fresh green pine before.... some ends needed trimming so away I went.

Oh man this stuff is soft..:o .. I can see why those northern hemisphere blokes are keen on hand tools.:D

cheers

It looks like Norfolk Island Pine to me (Araucaria heterophylla). Mainly because of the shape of the leaves.

Does it have a Piney aroma? If so then it's probably from the Pinus family, not from the Araucaria clan.

yeah at a glance looks like hoop but could be norfolk.
Got a pic of the timber and yes if it smells overly piney its not an acracuria

I'm pretty sure it's Norfolk. Hoop has clusters of flat "leaves" rather than the cylindrical clusters of needles that Norfolk has.

Just had another look at some other photos I have and the bark is not the same as the photos I have of N.I pines.
This is a photo of a N.I Pine bark
