Gidgee (http://web.aanet.net.au/ttit/treepages/gidgee_main.htm) and Brigalow (http://web.aanet.net.au/ttit/treepages/brigalow_main.htm) are both great turning timbers, don't know about the Wadi as I have never heard of it. Can't even find any references to it.

Top score Bob, where did you get them from? Can't say I have ever heard of the Waddi, but looking up Acacia peuce on Google, it is another desert timber. The purple certainly sounds nice.

The desert timbers are my favourites and I buy most of mine from the WWW shows. They are very hard and you will need sharp tools, but they nearly all have very fine grain, from their slow growth, and polish like glass.

Hate to gloat (not), but I've got more Gidgee (http://web.aanet.net.au/ttit/treepages/gidgee_main.htm) than ya' can poke a stick at! Not that rare - around here anyway! - and Brigalow (http://web.aanet.net.au/ttit/treepages/brigalow_main.htm)'s virtually a weed here.:U As for the Waddy - I haven't tried it yet but have some coming. Found a friend of a friend who has his yards made from the stuff out near Birdsville. The only other places it grows the Northern Territory and a couple of spots in South Africa!

All three of those are rare... here in the upover... in fact, in my little part of the upover, real trees (450-500mm) are rare. :) None of 'em grow really large, except elm and cottonwood. You Blokes have some awesome timber down there. Must be somethin' in the air. :D
