You are mistaken. It is a horse's gob.
We don't do much with the horse's fleece.

Knowing spinners as I do they will spin anything they can so horse hair wouldn't be far from their list.
Wife just informed me yes she knows someone from their guild who has spun horse hair.
Wife has spun Malamute
and some woman spun spiders web
