How can I turn off Auto Update Acrobat Reader 8.1

I'm using my firewall at the moment

Edit, Preferences, update should get you there I have gone back to Version 5 -bulletproof*, so my suggestion may not work on V8.

* I was getting too many conficts with V7, it kept disapearing and I would have to reload it all the time. Besides the opening graphics there's not much in it IMHO

Adobe have hidden this one quite well.

Main menu/Help/check For Updates.
when you click on /check for updates/ the program will look for available updates and pop up a window with the results.
In the popup window is a blue 'Preferences' link.
You can turn off the updates in here.
