I am looking for plans of an interesting boat that i can build around a whipper snipper engine Probably wants to be something not too racy and around 5 to 8 feet long.

One interesting idea that I have seen was to build a model of the Orca from Jaws

Can anyone make any suggestions.

Thats the next problem, how fast is a flamin' W/S motor going to go? Im guessing that with 18cc of smoke generating two stroke its going to FLY!

I know I can change that with prop pitch, but theres no point making lots of noise if I am not going to make a bow wave/rooster tail to match...:D

How have you gone with plans? I thought of doing this a few years back but never got around to it. If you get some decent plans can you let me know I would love to have a go at it.

Cheers Tim.

Hi Rob, Have a look at the site Alan's Hobby.

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~atong/

It has links to all different modelling sites and there are heaps of links to model boat sites. Should find something there.

Here is a "model", about six foot long, electric power if I remember correctly, and , no, his legs aren't hanging out of the bottom. I took this photo at the last Goolwa woodenboat Festival.

If anyone has any plans for sailing models, simple as possible to suit my huge intellect, then I would like 'em.....please!

How's about my 2ft skiff?? From a measured drawing by David Payne of the original 1920's version. Hull is 2 ft long, this is the moderate air rig, (6ft) the light weather one is 10 ft but I already had to cut a hole in the ceiling to fit this one in (!). You need one for each foot.

Not radio controlled, you'd have to go after it in the paddlewheeler.

Maybe I should post more details?

(Nice to have hijacked a nasty petrol thread, even one that's two years old!)

Ok, I'll tease some more:

In fact I'll take some more pics tonight and post under a new thread!

Look for TWO FOOT SKIFF in this forum!

Cheers,

Look for TWO FOOT SKIFF in this forum!
What if you want to put two people in it? Do we then need a FOUR FOOT SKIFF? :D

I did some research on the net and found that a boat called the Cracker Jack was popular size/model for whipper snipper engines. I managed to track down some plans, not the best, they have been scanned in on a low resolution and pieced back together. I took them to a copy place hoping to get them printed but was going to cost too much etc. Ended up printing them on A4 and joining onto cardboard. And thats as far as I have got to date. If you want the plans let me know and I will try and email them, there are also some basic instructions for it too. Not sure how it will go?

Tim.

Hei Tim,
Reading this thread has reminded me that I was saving a whipper snipper engine to convert for use in an R/C plane.
Since I'm no longer flying, a boat could be an interesting proposition - any chance you could e-mail me the plans.
I've pm'd you a direct e-mail addie.
Cheers

G`day rob
i`m currently finishing a 1200 mm boat (along with a trailer and a tow vehicl lol) i wanted to go with the 50`s look and found plenty of plans at
http://www.svensons.com/boat/
i merely scaled them down, i wasnt looking for anything high speed but merely a "big boys toy"
started out as a time killer when one of the boys at work said you should build a trailer for it to show it off........
then someone else turned around and said it needs a tow vehicle!!!!
bastards rofl
so i now have a 1200 long semi scale, (almost) remote control land rover with a 1400 mm long boat trailer to tow the 1200 mm wooden 50`s style runabout
the boat is built out of rubbish ply from work (lovely red tas oak skin on it) an old whipper snipper engine a few bought parts and materials (fiberglass resin paint etc)
the trailer and landrover are built out of scrap rhs and colourbond from work (i`m a motor body builder)
i`m about ready to make the big decision, should i make it a working r/c model or just a bloody big display model (thinking above a nice home bar i want to build lol)
heres a couple of pics, they`re not the best i know but only taken with my phone.....beggars cant be choosers lol

still got a bit of work to do but i`m happy so far
hope the site gives you something to think about..
remember if they can build it big, you can make it small
cheers mate

My son had a hobby shop and was involved in radio controlled boats, planes etc. He bought a set of plans for the 'cracker box' boat and we built a 'plug' (which we still have) from which we made a mould for making fibre glass models. He used a 'genoa' moter which I think is a modified whipper snipper motor. He achieved speeds up to 60 kph. Timed with the help of a friendly police officer with his radar gun. The cracker box is regarded as a pure drag racer and does not turn well at high speeds. He had another boat which was about 5 feet long, we still have the mould for that hull. The major problem was finding a convenient stretch of water to play on.

Just in case anyone goes searching for them, the "adapted" whipper snipper style motors are Zenoah.

Some links which may be of interest to any aspiring RC boaters are............:

http://www.ampba.asn.au/initial.htm This is the Aust., associations site, has links to clubs and their own forum. Some nice guys there but some seem to take themselves too bloody seriously:rolleyes: .

http://www.intlwaters.com/index.php? A fantastic US based forum with an active membership. A fair few local guys seem to prefer to post there rather than the above mentioned forum.
