Was searching the forum for info on making and using router templates and found a posting by Tom O Donnell regarding a document he'd written on the subject. There was a web link there but unfortunately the site is no longer at that URL.

Does anybody know whether the site was moved or where I can get a copy of his doc?

Also, what do people make templates out of? I used a bit of plywood to make one last night and it worked OK but it's hard to cut a shape out of it without tearing.

MDF is a good material for templates I have found.
Pretty cheap as well. Just make sure your blades are sharp when you cut the material and you should have no problem.

Great thanks. Do you just cut it out with a Jigsaw?

Depends on the shape mate...

I usually use either the jigsaw or the bandsaw (mostly) to rough cut the shape and then fine tune and clean up the shape with a sander (a drum sanding bit in my drill press) until the woodworking gods shower enough money on me to get an oscillating spindle sander :)

Try this link http://www.wa1.quik.com.au/tod/ for Tom, still works.

He also produces a CD-ROM on templates and their applications which is also handy.
Cheers:)
