Network Problems

A friend fiddled with me pc and now the network don't work at all.
No internet connection for swmbo's computer which is a pita.

I've tried running the network wizards again.
And assingned static ip numbers etc and no go.

How do I totally remove the lan network and the internet connection so I can re-install totally without previous info upsetting the new installations.

Both pc's are indentical and have lan's built into mb.
Internet connection is isdn through a telstra nt1 modem.
(I'd prefer not to reinstall the modem"

I have a program my grandson who is a systems engineer sent me to fix my network. I just ran it on each computer and it fixed it up.

Few more hours fiddling around.

Bugga, he fiddled with me firewall.

Got internet connection on both computers now.

Bit more of a fiddle and I might be lucky and get acccess between both pc's

If that don't fix it might get a hub or switch.

Windows firewall and 3rd party ones can cause lots of problems. Need to set both if you have 2 running.

Best to check first by turning the firewall off and see if that fixes the problem then see what needs tweaking.

I don't use the xp firewall.

I turned the panda firewall off and now I have acess to the client computer from the server, which I've never had before, and it looks like I can acess the printers on that pc.

After I got that far I turned Panda back on and the network is now usable except for 1 remaining wart.

The client computer can see the server but cannot access anything
it was like this with the firewalls off.

Have you got the files you want to access shared along with the printers etc. on each computer.

Another thing you could do is Map a network drive to the folders you want to access.

Had that problem whaen I installed AVG on all my Home network computers.

at the moment i'm tryin to get a printer working

I just got 1 printer working on the network so now I don't have to print a4's on my large format printer

I don't know if you realise or not but if you want to access certain files from one computer to the other you also need to share the folder that the files are in. You right click on the folder and click on sharing and tick the appropiate boxes.

Did that long ago.

The client computer can see the server but not access it or the printer attached to it.



The rest of the network is working fine
