Jeez stirlo, you're sounding old before your time!!:p

I started running a list through me head and then discounted the ones that are a guy or gal with a backup band, 'cos these things change. It also shot my list down in flames:oo: , the likes of Paul Kelly, Van Morrison, KD Lang, John Butler etc, then drop the solo artists that I listen to heaps like Harry Manx, Robert Johnson...and stick to bands proper.
Sort of chronological:

Black Keys
Hilltop Hoods
Cruel Sea
Dave Graney & the Coral Snakes (well, the albums he did with that backing band:rolleyes: )
Lil' Charlie and the Night Cats (had to include them)

...going back in time...

Midnight Oil
Cold Chisel
AC/DC
Pink Floyd

...used to listen to these nonstop, but rarely now...

Rolling Stones
Creedence Clearwater Revival

I find I've gotta keep moving, get bored with the sound of bands and their times, and keep listening for newer stuff. Bands come and go, the one constant though is the Blues, esp. old acoustic stuff, usually solo, I've listened to without getting bored for 30yrs:2tsup:

Cheers,

I went and started to go through the old vinyl to make a list based on time periods.
Like 1940's Muddy Waters, Woody Guthry... 1980's The Art of Noise, blur etc .... but it all got too hard ...just too many artists and genres and too many artists that spanned two or more decades.

i was hoping you would see this.:2tsup:

i like their new stuff on myspace, shimmy is a brilliant song but i think breakdance not hearts is their best:shrug:they're all good songs tho.

cheersI reckon ‘The Back of Your Head’ is their best but you might say I'm biased . It's not on their website anymore but there's a poor sound quality live video here (http://youtube.com/profile_video_blog?sid=72C45D1460340CAE&id=1A8BFD2739E33BEC). The pick of their current offerings is Princess, :2tsup: but I think the intentional poor quality at the start might put people off listening past the first ten seconds.

1960s: Beatles
Shadows

1970s: The Saints
Dead Kennedys
Stiff Little Fingers
The Clash

1980s: The Rejects
The Pixies

1990s: Tool
A Perfect Circle
Jerry Cantrell

The Beatles & Shadows are obviously the odd-ones in there, and when some people check out my collection they can't believe it includes these two bands. I was born in that decade and my Mum was a big fan so she played them a lot while being a housemum. I reckon I was brainwashed - but in a good way!

Difficult to select really. I'll list bands/musciians who have standout albums starting with (loosly) those with the most albums I love - or have songs on them I love (I find the best music is often on albums close to a cutting edge of my tastes so that some songs go over it)

Though first off - given my avatar - I guess I should start with
Lancelot Link and the Evolution Revolution - The true Monkeys.

Tom Waits
The Chemical Brothers (plus the best video clips)
The Laughing Clowns (incredible driving off beat rock/jazz/??? - pity they didn't get decent production behind them)
The (British) Beat
Fishbone
Leo Kotke
Frank Zappa
Miles Davis (earlier the better
Frank Black
Pixies
Chillie Peppers
Cruel Sea
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Green Day (best - Insomniac)
Coltrane (Live at birdland a standout for me)
Egg
Living Colour
Dig

I'll stop there. I'm sure I've missed some though.
