Where are you in Melbourne?

Cheapest place in the west is http://timbersearch.com.au/, if out past Lilydale, http://www.bowerbirdtimber.com/ is good if out Mitchem way http://www.mathewstimber.com.au/ (not cheap) is a go. Also many folks on this board will sell you timber below market cost.

What do you need exactly, how much and were do you need it?

http://www.mathewstimber.com.au/ is the closest to you but they are not cheap. What are you building and what kind of timber do you need?

Not sure about cheap, but good value for money at both of the following:

Australian Furniture Timbers
351 Plummer St Port Melbourne

http://www.afttimbers.com/home.htm

Also Delta Recycled Timber
577 Plummer St Port Melbourne

http://www.recycledtimber.com.au/

I've dealt with them both. AFT has a huge range in stock, really good website. Delta is more hit and miss (goes with the type of business they're in), but very helpful.
