Hi All,

After spending an entire weekend edge cleaning up rough timber with a bench saw and a plane, I am now seriously thinking about lashing out and buying a jointer.

According to the Minister for Finance and War, I am on a severely limited budget so would anyone like to make a suggestion as to "how little can I spend while getting as much bang as possible for my bucks"?

Would something like this
http://www.carbatec.com.au/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=180_370_2350 do the job or am I looking at spending a lot more money?

A lot of my work is with old (and I mean old) reclaimed hardwoods.

TIA

Nigel.

That is the latest version of my jointer. Some would say that the (more expensive) long bed version is better but I can't fault this guy. Had it 2 years. Buy some spare knives if you are working hardwood.:2tsup:

Hi Nigel,
The best value for money jointer for Australian hardwoods bar none, is one of these:

It won't break the bank either.

Hi Nigel

Have you considered an 2nd hand machine, a heavy industrial machine. Only last week a 10" jointer was on ebay for $600 it was 5 years old and the factory was upgrading and needed to get rid of it.

These machines have no computer parts made from heavy iron bodies, so little can go wrong with them.

As someone who is into reclaimed hardwoods and who is also on a budget that is the way I am going to do it.

Look at http://www.graysonline.com.au/ and ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/)

Forget looking if you live in brisbane. Been nothing for weeks:((
Very frustrating.
