Hi All
Heard mention of a posse heading over to Jeff's Shed for the Melbourne leg of the working with wood expo. Have any details been finalised yet and if so what are the arrangements.

Cheers

I'm heading in on the Friday, usually do the first hour look around for bargains first.

So, how about meeting at eateries, at the easternmost tables & chairs at 11am?

They are attending the Working With Wood & Timber show there.

Work permitting Friday will be the day. Hooking up at 11 sounds good.

rsser
22nd September 2007, 09:42 PM
... Richard Raffan is demo-ing bowl turning at 10.15 so maybe 11.15 would be better to hook up (for turners at least!).

RACV is offering a discount again - up to 45%; see the WWW show home page.

I will be there on the Saturday, probably around 11.00, and I think there are a few others lined up for the same day. Not sure if anyone has planned to meet up at this stage.

John.

Allan, missed you in the crowds.

So what did people score?

I was happy to get a platter sized lump of well coloured camphor laurel, bowl blank crotch piece of crow's ash and a figured bowl blank of southern mahogony. Also a couple of unhandled Crown turning tools at half price: 32mm wide skew and a dovetail chisel which was cheaper than a HSS blank.

Raffan was interesting at the lathe. Sure works fast.

I thought bargain of the day was some veneers I bought, $2 a leaf.

From a non cost perspective, watching people like Raffan and Stephen Hughes turning was a highlight.

Yep, me too. Lots of great demos and displays. And many quality goodies at bargain prices.

I just need to take more money next year. :D

The dovetail demo would have been run by Alastair Boell.

Goodies gained:
Ubeaut Glow 500ml
Ubeaut Sanding Sealer 500ml
Handful of slimlines from Froggie
Little Wonder cup tool from Woodcut
Lump of nice Tassie Sassy
Three different grits sanding belts
15" chisel handle (good value).
and a couple of other bits and pieces.

Probably only disappointment was the quality of
some wood for sale. Was looking for some nice
stuff in tiger myrtle, sassafras, blackwood and
Huon pine. Got sick of picking up pieces which
were flawed with cracks and rot.

Otherwise good day out - first time at a WWS
and would go again. :2tsup:

I couldn't make it in, so to make up for it I treated myself to a trip to Pete's Bargain Centre today. I lashed out and bought some coach bolts, some belts for the linisher, some...

Ahhh.... who'm I kidding? It just ain't the same. :C

Went this year and last year. Was it just me or was it smaller this year? It's a bit hard to have a goo dlook, when pushing a 2 year old around. In and out in 2 hours.
