Enlightened ones,
I will be building my router table soon and I, like most I suppose, want to use a laminate surface. Does it have to be the glossy slick type or will the "flat" type surface be sufficient. I can get some offcuts at a much reduced price that retail but colour choice and texture is limited. A glossy hot pink router table surface would look interesting to say the least.

Cheers

Pete

Pete,
just watched Norm build the router table on NYW and the laminate he used seemed to be the normal flat type. I have used the flat type for a sled on the thicknesser (thickness thin pieces of timber) and no problems with timber feeding thru.

I used sink cutouts for mine, they had a textured finish. I feel that it doesn't matter as long as the surface is hard. This will meant that the timber won't stick to the table.

Thanks for that guys. I missed the NYW on Wednesday. I was going to make sure to catch up with it on Sunday, even more so now. I didn't know it was about the router table. What excellent timing. :2tsup:

I just used a leftover piece of veneered ply for mine and worked just fine, I thought. Then one day, bored, I put a coat of lacquer on it, and was I suprised. Been keeping a good coat on it ever since.
