I had to do a couple of twig pot for some friends. This one's a local timber - Gutta Percha a little scrubby type of tree related to Mangroves although this grows inland, south of Katherine. it turned really nicely and polished up really well.

Nice.

I'm always amazed at the timbers people use.

Ubeaut normal wax, EEE wax and shellawax in that order and applied on the lathe as per instructions. I used a couple of applications of each. Gutta Perchia seems to polish/finnish very well. Apparently the timber needs to be seasoned, When wet there is a fair bit of sap. The latex from Gutta Perchia was used for making rubber in the late 1800s, during the 1940s too I think.

BTW way FAB I think that it grows in NTH QLD as well.

Both pieces very nice Festo.
BTW, Gutta Percha gum was (is?) the stuff in the little ball inside golf balls. Also used by dentists for temporary plugs.
