Hi all, first post. Stumbled across teh site looking for an Australian wooden boat building forum.
I'm a sailmaker by trade, currently out of the marine game because the pay sucks! Have lots of experience with older boats, and love timber boats. Worked at Woolwich marina for about four years, which is where the bug REALLY developed.
Anyway, I have had a desire to build a boat for ages, and am considering taking teh big step. I have pretty much ruled out another fibreglass project boat, you end up with lots of rot to repair and something you didn't really want in teh first place. Aluminium boats I hate, corrode, look ugly, noisy.
What about one of these for estuary, river and popping close offshore on calm days?

I like the look, mate says overgrown Sabot, sure that may be true, but looks stable, lots of buoyancy, easy build (big consideration, I want to build a boat, but not spend 5 years doing it!).
Other bonuses is the size of it, easy and light enough to launch one up, light enough to tow without noticing it, low power requirements and the bow makes it very attractive for picking up and setting down people off river banks etc. Might even get used as a work boat at some stage, that bow would make a great work platform when working alongside boats.
Only downfalls would be in a short steep chop, you may get a little wet due to the flat bow, but it looks so buoyant forward it may not be an issue?
If anyone has sugestions for similar boats around 15ft long speak up!
Regards, Andrew.
