Burnsy 8th October 2007, 09:00 PM My $30 Ozito hammer drill has shagged itself (actually it's my second) and I figured it is about time I bought a decent one, preferably with SDS as I only use the drill for drilling masonary. They are the only hand held Chinese power tools I have had and the gears shredded on both.
I have been impressed with my new Blue Bosch tek gun so figured I would have a look at the Bosch drills. It seems that not all the Blue stuff is made in Switzerland anymore and the two blue SDS drills I looked at are made in PRC. Has anyone had any experience with these, they come with all the same warranty and guff as the Swiss made ones?
This is the drill, Bunnings are selling them for $149 which is alot cheaper than any of the other so callled quality SDS units.

Ive also noticed alot of blue bosch gear is getting made in china and malaysia these days. Some of it is still made by the swiss and germans, go for them if you have a choice:2tsup:
Couple of years ago I bought a swiss made blue bosch jigsaw...never missed a beat, lovely jigsaw to use.
Its not only bosch...Makita, Hitachi are the same... Very hard to buy one of these brands here in japan, thats made here:-

Funny you mention Malaysia as the guy I was speaking to said they had a new factory there. These were definitley made in PRC though, and from what I could tell all the Rotary hammer drills were, it was only the impact drill that was made in Switzerland.
I think I will have a bit more of a paoke around in a few tool shops tomorrow and maybe buy one anyway.
Burnsy 10th October 2007, 10:20 PM Well after stopping in at a few tool stores to have a look at the price whilst in between jobs, I went straight to my local green store last night and bought one. You see my interest was further raised when during the day I dropped in at another green store to pick up a couple of pieces of timber and noticed the same drill on their shelf for $189, the tool stores had them ranging from $219 to $249.
It seems my local has made a bit of a blunder with their price and are selling them for the price of the green Bosch impact drills that are in their current catelog. I must have been real nice to someone this week because when I got it home and cut the zip lock to open the case I was rewarded with a pack of six Bosch SDS plus bits included in the case:2tsup:, according to the Bosch web site it is only the larger one that comes with the drill bits. Anyway, at around $15 for one bit I am not complaining, means I either got the drill for $59 or I got $90 worth of bits for free:D.

damienhazo 16th October 2007, 08:19 PM Bosch make a couple of good tools. As our little Japanese stormtrooper already said: jigsaws. The other in my opinion: pneumatic drills/chisels. I used to work with a guy who had a big electric jackhammer from Bosch and it was brilliant. The thing was ancient, weighed a tonne, and never missed a beat.
Their new GBH and GSH series hammer drills/chisels are also good.
Burnsy 2nd April 2008, 10:28 PM Drill has been used extensively now on three jobs both for masonary and timber drilling . It is a pleasure to use and the SDS mounting chuck that comes with it makes it real handy for using big old masonary bits that I already owned and for drilling larger holes steel and timber using regular bits.
Plenty of torque gets the thumbs up from me:2tsup:
