Hi Folks,

I have a piece of nicely spalted Silver Birch. Part of it, when turned, kept furring up[my technical term, "I KNOW NOTHING"]. I soaked it in 1:1 detergent water as I have recently read but it is still not cutting well. It is such a lovely piece of wood that I must get something out of it, it's too good for the fire.

PLEASE CAN ANYONE ADVISE

Regards to all

Sid

Sid,

Assuming the 'furry bits' (the sections of rotten wood) are not too large, ignore them until you're ready to start sanding. Then soak them in thin CA glue and sand. Should be fine from there.

If they're too large to do that with, not a lot of choice but to cut them away in my experience.

Thanks Darryl

I'll dry it out and try what you say
