I have 4yr old Holz Profi 300mm planer/thicknesser and am finally getting round to replacing the ordinary German blades with some new 3mm thick HSS blades.

Getting the old 'factory' blades out, wasn't too difficult, they were firm fit, but eventually levered out ok. With each of the 300mm blades is a right angle bracket, and an allen keyed tightening block; plus two springs and 2 plastic plugs .

However putting the whole thing back together is becoming a nightmare. Its impossible to see if the springs have seated themselves in their proper position beneath the blade. What is worse is that the new 3mm hss blade seems to be about .25mm thicker than it should be, ie to fit smoothly into the cutter head slot beside the securing brackets/blocks. I've bought the magnetic blade setter kit but it hasn't got any chance of 'gently' adjusting blade height.

Is anyone familiar with replacing cutter blades on this type of machine?
Anyone know of a translated Holz Profi manuals? :~

This is fixed. Holz Profi factory blades are 2.85mm [though labelled as 3.0mm]. I had the gibs machined down by 0.15 mm to fit standard 3.0mm hss blades. I then used 400 wet/dry to gently smooth all sharp angles and drowned everything in oil. I removed troublesome springs from beneath blades and used an magnetic blade setting jig to hold up a suitable blade height. It works...bleeding obvious really.
