Bosch Pex 400AE Sander

I have just bought a new pad for my pex 400ae sander and am having problems with the sanding disks adhering to the velcro on the pad. After about 15minutes the disks fly off.
I rang Bosch and they told me the problem was that I was using Norton disks and not Bosch disks. However Bosch disks are hard to find.
I have since found another pex 400 owner who had the same problem. He solved this by buying industrial strength velcro and gluing it to his pad.
Before I run out and buy some industrial strenght velcro and glue it to my new pad has anyone had this similar problem and are there any other solutions.
Bosch didn't really want to know about this problem

Tony, a forum search on velcro & ROS (here (http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/search.php?searchid=1799104)) will bring up previous discussions, some have had success with just getting self adhesive velcro, scraping off the old stuff & sticking the new stuff on. Can also get more aggresive velcro hook stuff that could be a better choice, could be what you have mentioned as "industrial strength".

Hi Tony I had a problem with my 11 inch disc with the paper coming off was told about adhesive velcro so I tryed it ,it works better then before I used 25mm wide comes 5 mt long adhesive velcro stick on hook only I brought it from bunnings I left it for 24 hrs to bond on to the disc before I used it

Thanks very much for your replys I havn't investigated any velcro yet however i did spaek to a salesman at Bunnings who is a wood turner and he had the same problem with the same Bosch sander. He said the velcro hooks they use on the Bosch sanders are too weak.
He solved the problem by buying those velcro throw and catch ball games that you get from Crazy Clarkes and sanding smooth the pad cutting and gluing the velcro to the pad with contact adhesive. He reckons it works really well as the velcro on those games have large hooks.

Hey Guys/Girls,

Thank you ever so much for this little gem of a post.

I to had a rather effective frisbee thrower in my Bosch Pex 270A. Here I was thinking it was the discs that was the problem when it was the pad all along.

Went out to Bunnings, bought a Norton's converter pad kit. Cut it to size... Cleaned my original pad as best as I could. Put some glue down and applied the converted pad to the old bosch pad.

Put down on a bench top, then a 20kg bag of blood and bone <it was the easiest and closest thing to find from a weight perspective> and waited 24 hours.

Tried it yesterday with a new pad and oh my!!!! What a difference! No more frisbee throws and it works a charm!!!!!

Thanks a million for this thread, a simple tip that has saved me a LOT of time, money and effort and now a massive decrease in frustration!

Issue is that the Bosch Velcro, is very fine, and has a problem with Norton and any other brand .

Generic Velcro will grip any brand, and has a much more aggressive and open face than the Bosch, which has a very fine hook.

I had a Bosch pex 400, until the shaft sheared, then brought an OZITO mainly due to cost, the Bosch is a better balanced machine though.

I would buy the generic Velcro, spin the bosch up to full speed , and use an angle grinder with a 40 grit sanding disc to remove the Bosch velcro clean the rubber down with metho , then put on new velcro.

I WOULD DO THIS TO THE OLD PAD , AND KEEP THE NEW FOR A SPARE

The house brand (Trojan? little wonder they lost the war) sanding disks that Bunnings sell are carp - about 2 minutes and the loop field comes off, leaving you with the joy of picking it out of the hook field on your sander. Luckily Peter's Power Tools in Penshurst St Willoughby still sell Bosch sanding disks - singley! Or Sydney Power Tools sell them by the box of 100.

Strangely the Norton/Bear brand disks I do have work fine on both my Bosch ROS units.
