Well, having no artistic ability for carving myself, the only thing I would change is his mane,
I think it should be more shaggy looking.
Other than that,I like it! :)
I've turned a couple small pieces of Tassie Oak, that's some hard stuff!
Is it difficult to carve?

Phil.

Very nice and for a guy originally from Africa.......hey mate a good looking 'King of the Bush'

My only comment would be to drop the high gloss urethane, I have a preference for satin/matt finish, more so for a subject from the wild. High gloss tend to make carvings and most furniture look plastic or cheap. Thats just my honest opinion....you asked for it....you got it for what its worth.

Very nice work

Joe

Have fun......................keep turnin

Nice Carving.

Is it a wall hanging or part of a larger project?

Thanks for the criticism - i did ask for it
i will drop the poly next time and try an oil
i only use the poly as it was a free sample from mirotone
as for the timber to carve, it was hard
when you slice into it the grain lifts as a splinter then breaks off
usually deeper than required causing me to have to take more out around that area and then relevelling
As this is only my 2nd relief carving both are wall hangings
and yes it is a fat tailed/straight bearded spieces

cheers - multinut :D
