Dear members,

Not sure what the attachment is actually called, but it's an add-on to a bench grinder.

I would to get hold of one, but could find only one in the States on eBay.

Who sells them in Melbourne, what's a good brand name, and roughly how much do they cost?

Regards,

Ken

Thanks Jeremy,

Thats exactly what I had in mind, but ouch, $186 for a small one?
I didn't even pay that much for the bench grinder.

Anyone got one they no longer use, or plans to make one?

This Scheppach (http://www.carbatec.com.au/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=180_430_19278) one at Carbatec on special at $119 might do the trick for you, and doesn't need to be attached to your bench grinder!:2tsup:

Do yourself a favour and contact Hare and Forbes as well as firms like Carbatec, get their catalogues. This would put you in a position to view a cross section of tools in the cheaper ranges. Both have a real lot of top quality products as well.Where you are in Melbourne there are an infinite number of machinery suppliers in both wood and metal, you should be the king of knowledge in the box seat,I should be consulting you.
I have this day sent you a number of copies one of each of the Hercus spare parts manual and sundry informative papers I had for the Hercus 9 inch,so now you can help others with more information on these machines, this info includes the specs for new machines tolerances check list.

Hi Ken,

I have only just just seen this thread .Assuming you haven't already made a belt sander purchase, I thought of this guy.

http://www.piricdesign.com.au/

He can't be all bad as he is an ex Manual Arts teacher who has a number of unique woodwork tool designs to his credit.

If nothing else, his work is plain interesting- well to my mind at least.

Have a look here...

http://www.beaumontmetalworks.com/grinder.html

for a "different" style of belt sanders / linisher. This type of tool is popular in the US and there are a few web pages that show construction articles or that at least show enough of the tools design that you can make your own.

here are some links...

The pictures section on this link...

the direct link to pictures section...

http://groups.msn.com/HomeorshopmadeGrinders/shoebox.msnw

show a range of home made grinders. These devices are popular with US knife makers.

I did not bookmark some of the other good links I discovered a few months ago, but you should be able to find "something" suitable via Google, if you desire to make one :)

Gentlemen,

With great feelings of guilt, I bought myself a Christmas pressie, several days ago.

The Aussie made Multitool. :2tsup:At around $190, it certainly is a quality made item, I doubt one could be made for much less.

End of story,

Merry Christmas,

Ken

Hi Ken,
Well you certainly won't be sorry. Its worth the money. It can sharpen chisels with the right acessory.Keep an eye on bunnings as they come up cheap from time to time.

Also the belts as well, as the different grit jobs there is one made of a scotchbrite material that is superb on polishing.

You will find it is possible to "slack belt" polish on the lower face of the belt with a worn out belt.

I put mine on wheels as I get messy and can wheel it out in the yard when I have a mess to make.

Hi Grahame,

Firstly, a public thank you for brazing up my lathe hand wheel.:2tsup:

Secondly, tell me more about the Scotchbrite linishing belt, sounds like the ants pants.

I've owned and use the MultiTool for 5 years. My Dad put me onto it. Quality and craftmanship through and through. Made in Bathurst (?).

Hi Ken ,
You are very welcome. You will be able to use your new toy to dress the wheel back up. My multi tool is a very much used tool in my shop.I have both accessories, the sharpener jig and the disc table / protractor guide.

They were on special at Bunnies for $27 a few weeks back. I think I paid a bit more than that

The belt is similar to a washing up pot scourer but much thicker. It is tough enough for long time use but soft enough only to take only tarnish and crud off the surface of the material. Mine is the green color but the ones at Bunnies are brown .Maybe a different grade perhaps.

Cheers
Grahame

Those prices seem pretty much identical to Hare and Forbes prices - in fact looks a lot like a scan of the H&F catalogue :2tsup:

The beauty of being in Brisbane I guess - just take a drive out to H&F and collect.:D
