Hi

I am constructing an outdoor table in redgum which has been tested at 10% moisture. I am using 6 lenghts of 1900 long, 160 wide, 40mm thick. The top will be fixed to a stainless steel frame with 4 legs. I am considering 2 options to construct the top.
1. biscuit the 6 pieces together then fix to the frame
2 fix the individual pieces to the frame with a 3mm gap between each.

I would appreciate any advice on the best method, given the tendency of redgum to cup. My preference is to have it as one piece but if it means that it is likely to cup, resulting in water pooling in the middle of the table, or possibly unbalance the table then the 3mm gap might be good.

Importantly, the table will be exposed to sun and rain which might affect the construction method. Whatever method is chosen the top will be oiled regularly.

Any advice appreciated.

If you decide on biscuits make sure to align the end graisn so that they go alternately in opposite directions. this shoul help with stability.
From what I know redgum is best used in BIG CHUNKS.

My preference woulb be the gap method. This lets wter through and you can brush scraps off more easily for the dog to clean up.:D:D
