Old fasioned floor dogs

I am now the proud owner of two old fasioned floor clamps.
I picked them up on ebay for a very reasonable price and great condition.But the old wire springs are no longer doing their job very well.
does anybody know of somebody in melb who can recondition them or give me some advice on how to do it myself?
I cant find any info on the net so would appreciate some comment,cheers all.

I threw a pair away years ago should have kept them until ebay was started.
The springs never were strong enough to clamp the joist so what we did was to hit the back of the teeth cams with a hammer in the end they had a mushroom end from the hammering and on the way the springs were hit too and fell off. :doh:

Here is my floor dog. Not sure if he's old fashioned or not. Can safely say the springs are on the weak side, unless I have food to offer...
