LGS 23rd December 2007, 04:13 PM Just got the latest mailbox blurb from Aldi.
10" table saw with rip fence, mitre gauge etc for A$129.00
GMC right angle cordless drill for A$24.99
Electric Cement Mixer for A$179.00:no::oo:
If all you want is something for a single project, or you just need a saw for ripping timber...
Regards, (gee I like Festool)

rick57 24th December 2007, 12:14 PM I just want something for making the odd small speaker box out of plywood.
My alternative is not something dearer & better, but to pay to have pieces cut, or ask a favour of a friend

Anyone have experience with those Aldi 10" table saws, or their suitability for that? <o></o>

Thank you<o></o>
Big Shed 24th December 2007, 12:23 PM The bottom end of the market seems to be getting cheaper all the time!
Was in Stratco yesterday and they are selling 1/4"-1100W GMC routers with 5 router bits for $29.95.
Heaps of other GMC stuff going out cheap as well.
rick57 24th December 2007, 08:17 PM Might the $29.95 1/4" 1100 W GMC routers be ok for the odd handheld job?
Thanks

If I didn't already own a Bosch 1/4" router, I would have bought one.
Those smaller routers are perfectly OK for the not so demanding jobs and, as is said repeatedly on this forum, you can never have too many routers!

Anyone have a view on the Aldi saws for the occasional speaker box?

If you have a shovel and some "will" you'll do a better job and quicker too.
you'll save on landfill as you will not have to throw it "away" when your done.

Supermarkets selling powertools...
Christos 27th December 2007, 09:08 PM I do not really go to Aldi for my shopping, but know of some people that do. The question would be, why do we buy tools? To throw them out or hand them to the next generation.
I can only speak for myself and it does take time for me to get a new tool (Powered or Hand). Once I purchase one I like to know that it will be used and ready to be used when I need it.

For your application, mate, I'd recommend a decent circular saw and a straight edge. Take up less room, be more useful for other tasks, and likely easier to get a square cut than from a dodgy table saw. :)
